Confederations do not hold. Later, in 1783, the USA became a federal state based upon 52 states.

United States Declaration of Independence
The United States Declaration of Independence is a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the thirteen American colonies then at war with Great Britain were now independent states, and thus no longer a part of the British Empire. Written primarily by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration is a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The birthday of the United States of America—Independence Day—is celebrated on July 4, the day the wording of the Declaration was approved by Congress.
The Philadelphia Convention adopted the current United States Constitution on September 17, 1787; its ratification the following year made the states part of a single republic with a strong central government. The Bill of Rights, comprising ten constitutional amendments guaranteeing many fundamental civil rights and freedoms, was ratified in 1791.

September 2001 ist die Krone der weltberühmten Freiheitsstatue in New York erstmals wieder für Besucher geöffnet. Zur Feier des amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitstags am Samstag konnten erstmals wieder Touristen den beeindruckenden Blick von der Aussichtsplattform auf die Skyline von Manhattan genießen.
